Every year Philip's company has a retreat where the company pays for really nice hotel rooms at a resort and spa for all of its employees so everyone can hang out at the pool, golf, get spa treatments, pretty much just relax and have fun. Last year we didn't get to go because Gavin was only two weeks old. This year, we thought it'd be fun to go and hang out in the pool with Gavin and get to show him off. Heh--yeah, didn't work out...
We got off to a MUCH later start that we had anticipated, so we stopped at Target to get some food for Gavin and fed it to him in the car. By the time we got to the hotel it was 9:00 pm, an hour and a half after Gavin's bedtime. We fed him some cereal and I nursed him, then put him down in his pack and play. He started crying. I let him out for a bit, then put him back. Crying more, for 20 minutes straight while Philip went out to pick us up some food. Philip came back and I was laying on the couch with Gavin to try to "sleep" with him with no luck.
It was getting later and later, so we didn't want to let Gavin scream and get kicked out of the hotel, so we decided to let him play, figuring he'd crash, right? Ha--not a chance! I even tried getting in the pack and play with Gavin, hoping he'd like it better if I was there! By 11:00 pm Gavin was STILL AWAKE! So, Philip went to the car and got the stroller. He rocked him in that and he finally fell asleep by 11:30 pm.
We were exhausted from trying to get Gavin to fall asleep, so we got in bed right away, and fell asleep. I was awakened by crying... I glanced at the clock and thought it was 2:30 am. I got Gavin out of the stroller and tried nursing, he bit me! He was wailing pretty bad. Philip woke up and looked at the clock and said, oh, it's only been an hour. I looked and sure enough, it was only 12:30 am. If this was the way the rest of the night was going to go, I said FORGET IT!!! We checked out at 1:00 am, (with the hotel staff offering us another room, oh, like that was the problem!) We arrived home at 3:00 am, Gavin slept maybe half of the way home. So, by 3:00 am, he'd only had about TWO HOURS of sleep! He hit his own mattress with what only can be described as relief!! If he could only talk, I think he would have said, "Oh, my bed!"
He then slept until 6:00 am, I nursed him, and then he slept until 9:00 am. After that he took naps at 11:00 until 1:00 and 3:00 until 4:00. We tried putting him to bed at 7:00, thinking he'd really need the extra sleep, but no, he cried for about an hour and a half, we went in there to check on him once, but nothing seemed wrong... he was just really messed up!
I look a little freaky... it was 11:30 pm and Gavin had finally fallen asleep in the stroller, but not for long...
