Healthy Appetite

Yesterday afternoon, one of Gavin's cousins gave him a whole apple while we were out in the backyard. I didn't think he'd be able to do anything with it, but he looked very interested in it; after all, the other kids were eating them. So, I let him have a go with it, and he caught on really fast. He LOVED it!

Notice the scabs on his nose. He got that because he was walking away from me on the sidewalk and tripped, bumping his nose. I was just glad that he didn't make his mouth or nose bleed. There is a reason we learn to walk when we are so short...

He LOVED it so much, he even enjoyed most of the core. I only saw him spit out a couple of tiny bits of it...

Sneaky, sneaky!

I sat down to the computer this morning and noticed this:

It may be hard to see, but it's writing on the wall!!!! I don't know when he did it! I guess it's time to get out the magic eraser!

Don't I look cute?

Backwards Boy

It was Gavin's idea to put on his raincoat before we went outside yesterday afternoon. I held it out so he could put his arms in and this is how he put it on.

He played like that, too. Didn't seem to notice a difference.

Crayon Face

Now that we have been drawing a lot, Gavin is trying to test me by trying to write on the table and eating crayons. He wouldn't let me get a good picture, but he has crayon on his face.

Born in the wrong century!

My dad was born in the wrong century. He should have been born in the old west. Now we have proof. One of the things we got for Christmas from my parents was a tile (ready for hanging or to go on a table) of my dad that was sold for a while in Calico ghost town. This picture is of him sitting in his tent with all of his stuff that he takes out to Calico.

Once again, I don't know why the thing thinks it's smarter than me, but it does; it turned the picture wrong. Also, sorry about the flash on the left hand side of the picture. It was hard to get a good picture since the tile is shiny.

Banana Boy

For snack this morning we had banana, which Gavin really likes now. He thought it would be fun to use his toy bowls to eat off of.

In this picture, Gavin is signing banana and telling me he wants more.

Sleepy Kitty

Last night the cat came up to me and laid down next to me while I was under the blanket. I had to get up and disturb him, but then I covered him up with the blanket. A little while later I came back out into the living room and he was still under the blanket. When I first came back out he looked at me with big eyes, and then closed them as if to say, "Oh, it's only you." He was sleeping on top of one of Gavin's books!

I was trying to get him to look at me, but he only graced me with cracking his eyes open a tiny bit.

Toe-tally Awesome!

Lately Gavin has been liking playing with my wedding ring. Yesterday he was playing with both mine and Philip's. He decided to use them as two rings. I love the way he figures things out!

Computer Guy

Gavin was sitting on my lap while I was on the computer. He wanted to wear Daddy's headphones. I managed to get this good shot while he had one hand on the mouse and the headphones on all while he sat in my lap!

Check this out!

Our friend, Gail, is an artist and she's been doing daily sketches on her blog. She did one of Gavin.

Check it out!

Mail Delivery!

Since we live at the same address as Jessica and Jon, Jessica gets the mail, separates it, and then usually (unless there is something big) slips it between the double doors that adjoin our residences. Gavin has obviously noticed this because yesterday he took a piece of mail I hadn't picked up yet and tried sending it back their way!

I guess he wanted it back, he tried sticking his finger in to get it. I had to open the doors to get it back.

I joined a running team!

I just thought I'd throw it out there that I joined a running team to keep me motivated with my running. They meet locally three times a week, but so far I have only been going once a week. The workout I attend is a local high school with a clay track where they don't mind if you run with a stroller (although that means with the rainy weather for the past two weeks the track has been MUD!). All weather tracks are a different story, the local university prohibits strollers on their all weather track. Check out the team website!

Drawing/Writing Practice

Last weekend Philip bought me a workbook so that I can learn the hiragana or characters in the Japanese syllabary. So, right after snack time (hence, the bib) I got out the crayons and paper for Gavin I and did a couple of workbook pages.

He decided holding them in one hand was better. He hasn't entirely decided whether he's going to be right or left handed yet.

Good job, Gavin!

The cover of the workbook. See the big 5? It's meant for a five year old. Eventually we'll probably have Gavin do the workbooks as well. They have them for as young as 2 years old. Philip said that there was only one hiragana per page for the little ones.

One of the pages from the inside. To the right you can sort of see that there a few games in it as well.

Tot Lot Fun

Aunt Staci posted about a Tot Lot on her blog that she had gone to not far from our houses and I told her I wanted to go the next time she went. A meeting of ours was canceled and so the perfect opportunity arose to go! There is a section for the little ones, tots ages 2-5 and then a section for the older kids from 5-12. We were there probably an hour and a half or two hours and Gavin loved it! Gavin's cousin, Brooke, also had a lot of fun on the toys for older kids.

"Hi Gavin!"

All these cool things to do and what does Gavin want? To play in the sand. He did try other things, too, though. This summer will be so much fun at the beach with him!

Around and around she went!!!

She loves to climb!

Around Gavin went!

I helped him climb the structure. He got to be pretty good at it. Tire out for the nap!

Wee! He's still pretty timid on the slide, but he likes it with a little support from mom.

Escapees from the Backyard!!!

Gavin and I came home from out hill walk to find three escapees from the backyard digging in the front! At first I only saw two, Mac and O.

But then the third, Marilyn, (the white chicken), emerged from the bushes.

They did not want to go quietly. They tried to escape my herding and walked in the wet grass, then leaving footprints.

Another Cloud Shot

It's not raining today! It's a nice change from the off and on rain of over a week! Gavin and I went out for another hill walk this morning!

Getting Along

The backyard animals all seem to have a truce going on. Al and Fudge don't seem to mind being near each other and sometimes seem to enjoy it. Here they are in the rabbit hutch Aunt Jessica made at the same time. Al is underneath the mesh and Fudge on top.

Good looking clouds!

While in the backyard, I thought that I'd take some pictures of the good looking clouds in the backyard and the channel. It's muddy from all of the run off. At least in the picture you can't see any of the litter that is usually present after rain, it gets pushed down by the run off. It's disgusting, actually. Do people not think about where their trash will go when they leave it on the ground? Since it's been raining so long I think most of the trash has already washed out to the ocean. Not cool, but that's how the cookie crumbles.
