I let Gavin wander pretty freely in the backyard; sometimes he wanders over toward the fence leading out of the yard and I guess it wasn't latched this time.

Play Time for Kitty
Gavin and I were in the backyard and I heard a tinkling of the cat's bell. Next thing I know, he's chasing the rabbit! It seemed to be harmless fun for the two of them. He never pounced on the rabbit or anything.

And so the embarrassment begins
On Monday, Gavin and I went shopping at Costco. I had the cart loaded and put a carton of eggs on top. I was wandering through the store wondering if I would find the last couple of items on my list (even though I'd been through the store once) and all of the sudden Gavin brought his hand around and he had an egg in it! As soon as I realized what was happening, crack! He crushed it in his fist and dropped it in the cart! He had turned around and ripped open the egg carton and snagged an egg when I wasn't paying attention. I was pretty much done anyway, so I took off for the check stand. I'll spare you the details, but I got help at the check stand and there were probably half a dozen items with egg on them, it wound up on the floor and the person behind me wiped it up, the checker had it on his hands, and the box girl said, "That was just one egg?" They were even nice enough to go get me another set of eggs. Kids definitely keep things interesting!
Looks so innocent, doesn't he? The egg is marked in the picture.

Everything in its place
Gavin LOVES to put things in and out and in and out over and over and over again. One time I opened a cupboards and guess what I found, a spatula!
He's experimenting with what fits where and why. I don't think this was the best place for his spatula: the junk drawer, along with the flea medicine and crazy glue. We really need to get on fixing that child safety that is broken on that drawer and the knife drawer. He doesn't take things out of that drawer and I NEVER let him play with the knives, but for when we can't be every place at once, I know it's best to have it proofed.

Hidey Hole Discovery
I may have known at one time or another about this compartment in my seven and a half years of knowing this house, but it seemed like a new discovery at the time. Leave it up to toddlers to find something you didn't even know existed; they are in to EVERYTHING.

The contents of the cubby look like they are from when Philip's parents lived here, shows how much it's been used as of late. Hehehe.

Spatula Boy 2
He's still having fun with it! He took it with us on our walk on the hill today and while we were on our way up one of the hills, a lady asked, "Is he going to make breakfast up there?!"

You can tell that I have no life when the videos I make get more complicated...
...but I hope you think this one is fun!

Eating like a Big Boy! 2
I am trying to get Gavin to eat as much on his own as I can. I have even started giving him his own plastic Ikea plate, and soon I will start having him face the table in the booster seat (because he's getting to be a big boy and eating so well, but also because I'll be babysitting my friend's seven month old boy next month and he'll need a place to eat as well. Philip says I should start him on the booster very soon so that he doesn't think that the other boy is stealing his seat, I would agree with that as well.) I had him eat off of a plastic fork as well.
He ate all three of his fish sticks and three or four bites of rice, but wouldn't touch the green beans for anything, even though he's had them all ground up or in small pieces in things.

15 Month Check Up
Can you believe that Gavin is already that old? I have forgotten to post his stats for his other check ups, so I'll do it now.
Two month appointment 7/13/07: 13 pounds, 24 1/2 inches long
Four month appointment 9/13/07: 16 lbs, 2 1/2 oz; 27 inches long
Six month appointment 11/12/07: 17 lbs, 9 oz; 28 1/4 inches long
Nine month appointment 2/22/08: 20 lbs, 6 oz; 30 1/4 inches long
12 month appointment 5/19/08: 22 lbs, 2 oz; 32 1/4 inches long
15 month appointment 8/19/08: 23 lbs, 11 oz; 33 inches long
--Can you believe he's almost three feet tall?!
He is currently in the 95th percentile for height (I think they have said that since he was two months old) and 50th percentile for weight, so he's pretty much a string bean! He also received three shots yesterday, no fun! The good news is that they don't want to see him until he's two years old, so he's got nine months off, well, not entirely, I need to take him in next month when the flu shots come in...oh so much fun!

Do I really need this kind of help?

Sleeee-py Tiiiiimmme...
Gavin's two naps lately have only been about an hour each, lately. Someone had told me that if I have him take just one nap after lunch, it should be longer. I thought it was time to make a change to Gavin's schedule (because hopefully his one nap will be two hours and plus I'm going to be watching a friend's son starting in September who takes his nap right after lunch so I want them on the same schedule), so I thought keeping him at church until noon and having him eat lunch then nap would be a good starting time. After church I took Gavin him and let him eat, then I was feeding him yogurt and he had his sippy cup of milk in his hand: he started to fall asleep!
We'll see how the switch goes down this week. I'm also going to wean him from his second nursing, he'll only be left with one time right before bed. My baby's growing up!
When I got my camera, he woke up and smiled, little ham!

I don't think he was asleep in this picture, but it almost looks like he is because he blinked at the right time.

Little Helper
Gavin has been playing in the cat's water, AGAIN. I usually get rags from the drawer next to the water dish, then mop it up and leave them to dry out. This time, he had almost completely emptied the cat's fountain. So, I went to the sink, got my water cup, filled it up a couple of times, and poured it into the fountain. While I was doing that, Gavin opened the bottom drawer and got out a rag and dropped it into the sopping wet mess. Then, he wanted my cup and he turned it upside down over the cat's fountain (I can only assume he was trying to fill it up just like Mom and help Mom clean up the mess). What a cutie! Then, when I had put down more clean rags and they were sopping wet, Gavin decided it would be good to pick one up and suck on it! What a weirdo! Hehehe!

Letter Jumble
Today I mopped the floor while Gavin was awake. In order to mop the living room I moved the rug and Gavin's letter mat; Gavin saw it as an opportunity to play with all of the letters at once (we usually keep them covered by the rug and use the mat as cushioning, although he still plays with the outside letters).
Mud Bath
Yesterday Gavin and a couple of his cousins played in a mud hole that Aunt Jessica created in order to extract a tree from the ground. Gavin didn't seem to like the mud a whole lot, even when I put him in it, but a couple of his cousins had a grand old time. Listen to the songs that one of them made up: they are quite amusing. They also "washed" Gavin's car with mud. Fun times!

He ditched his diaper and his cousins tired of the hole, so I thought I'd let him try it out. It didn't last long.

Eating like a Big Boy!
Gavin doesn't like to eat messy foods with his hands, so I want him to eat with a spoon instead. Look and see how well he did! It's amazing how fast they can learn, today's pretty much only the first day I have let him! I know he's also been observing us for a long time and that is a big part of their learning: observation and imitation. Way to go, Gavin!

Yummy Apples!
A while back I was eating a light dinner with a friend and I gave Gavin an apple slice, figuring he wouldn't eat it and would probably throw it. Much to my surprise he held on to it for quite some time and then he took a bite out of it! (after a couple of bites he choked, probably because of the skin.) After that I tried cutting up apples into little chunks without the skin and he didn't want them. This time I tried just peeling the apple and giving him slices, and he actually ate some!
