Cutie Colin

Colin's spontaneously saying words now! This time he said, "Star."

There were a lot of stars in the beginning of the episode of Care Bears.  My boys watch Care Bears now!

When I asked Colin to say "star" he signed it and then I got him to say it afterwards.  He had been saying it spontaneously before I tried to get him on video.

Colin's taking his monkey for a walk!

Garden & Bubbles!

My tomatoes are trying to take over the world.

They have even encroached on the strawberries' space.

Yummy snap peas!

Some of the peas that were hidden got so big that they were almost square!  There is also the tiniest pod, only two peas!

I have tomatoes! This is a Better Boy.

These are yellow pear.

Bubbles!

Check out Colin's talking!  It's all about the motivation!

My little cuties!

I am SO far behind in posts, hopefully I will catch up soon, but I am almost a month behind.

Took some pictures of them in the bath!!!

He does say a few words now!

Eating popsicles made at home from fruit juice, yum!

Cheese!

I thought having popsicle molds for summer would be fun and tasty!

Airplane & Signing Playtime Class

We have discovered that Colin LOVES airplanes! This is another instance that living under the flight path has paid off! Since I have been teaching him a few signs, airplane (click and select airplane from the list of A words to see) is one that I have been doing with him, since the airplanes go overhead often enough to notice.  One day we walked outside and he put his arm in the air and said, "airplane," (with his mouth closed, an annoying habit!)

We have also been taking the Signing Playtime class through the city's parks and rec.  The first class we went over animals and colors using the book: Brown Bear, What do you See?.  The second class we went over foods and days of the week using The Very Hungry Caterpillar. She also included more signs as well, but those were the main ones.  The class motivates me to do more signs with him and he has been doing several signs now.  The teacher told me that I should start writing down which signs he knows and I think it's a good idea, otherwise I will never remember what he knew.  I have seen him do 1) more 2) milk 3) eat 4) all done 5) airplane 6) mama 7) ball and I think I have seen him attempt 8) diaper 9) water and 10) again.  I numbered them so I could see how many he knows.  I think we are off to a good start!  I am pretty sure that the number of signs he knows outnumbers the number Gavin knew.  I really only did more and milk with Gavin.

Don't you love the goggles on Colin?  I do!

In this video an airplane went overhead and you can see how excited he gets.  I was trying to get him to say airplane, but he wouldn't.

In this video listen very closely and you can hear Colin say, "airplane," (and he is doing an approximation of the sign for "airplane," as well).

Duck

Colin is getting better at imitating the sounds of words we make and I think that they may even have meaning behind them.  I got Colin to say, "duck," and I even got a video of it!

Who's on the phone?

One of Colin's favorite toys right now is the telephone--any telephone.  He pretends to talk into it and he has even said what sounds like "Daddy" on more than one occasion.  I hope to get a video of that soon!

Here is a short video of him "talking" on the phone.

More!!!!

We were at Aunt Staci's house and she and Sage were working with Colin on signing the word more to get more food. He started responding to them so I worked on it more the next day. He doesn't do it exactly, but he gets the message across. Here is a link to asl pro. They have a main dictionary, but also a baby dictionary (that has less word choices that are relevant to babies so that parents don't have to search through as many words to find what they are looking for). Babies are capable of communicating through sign before they can speak intelligibly. I did some signs with Gavin when he was a baby--mainly eating words. I have been trying to do a few more signs with Colin as well like milk and water.

I have a video that is too large to post here, so I need to figure out how to make it smaller!

Let's Walk!

Yesterday afternoon I had asked Gavin if he wanted to go walking, but only put on my shoes, but didn't really make a move to leave. A little while later Gavin had put himself in the stroller! I guess he really wanted to go and was saying, "Stop messing around, mom!" Also, after his bath last night, he did the same thing, even though this time I didn't offer to take him. He requested it himself saying, "walk" and signing walk. When I was resisting, he once again got in the stroller himself and requested it some more. We went for a leisurely walk down the street while we waited for daddy to come home.

Banana Boy

For snack this morning we had banana, which Gavin really likes now. He thought it would be fun to use his toy bowls to eat off of.

In this picture, Gavin is signing banana and telling me he wants more.

Video Update

You will probably recognize most of these from the pictures that accompanied them.

Gavin giving me kisses in the backyard, then requesting a book through signing. Gavin has picked up quite a few signs, including the word more (ever so important!), eat, apple, banana, milk, shoes, dog, cat, etc.

Philip's probably going to kill me for putting this one up, but oh well...

Kitchen fun!

When we went to Sacramento, Gavin played with a couple of his baby cousin's toys. Other people's toys are always more fun!!!

Gavin wants to be like Daddy.

Walking around in Daddy's slippers.

Gavin said his own prayers at one point. I haven't been able to get him to do it again lately, so I'm glad I caught it on video when I did.

Daddy and Gavin skittering together. He actually used it the correct way! (The one and only time so far!)

Gavin "cooking" on the big stove.

He can really move!

Gavin's first victory when it comes to eating with chopsticks.
