38 Weeks and Counting!

Here I am at about 38 1/2 weeks, before we went to the Halloween party at church.

Everyone loved the t-shirt. The only thing better would have been if the jack-o-lantern's face had been directly on my belly.

I am now 38 weeks, five days, which compared to my due date, is the day that I delivered Gavin, nine days before he was due. It's SO not going to happen this time... I had an appointment this morning, the doctor said that I was dilated 1-2 cm, she could barely fit two fingers in, she also dug around trying to strip my membranes (not exactly comfy), which she said should help bring on some harder contractions. I went for a walk this morning and it seemed as if the contractions were harder, but nothing like when I was in labor. I plan to go for another walk in a little bit, hopefully this baby will come soon. My friend who was due three days before me already had hers last Saturday... hopefully my time will come soon!

Halloween Party @ Church

Philip took the time to make Gavin a caveman costume using instructions he found in a magazine, but Gavin refused to wear it, even after we showed him cavemen in his Little People book, so our old standby is a train engineer, since he loves the trains. Grandma bought him the overalls when she was on a trip, we had the hat for a while, and the red shirt is one that happens to be in his size right now.

We had to take a picture with Gavin and the Thomases. They are twins who are about 2 years older than him.

Here he is all decked out. He refused to let us put the red scarf around his neck, or even in his pocket.

Preschool Projects

I am thinking that this apple project was from last month, since that was the theme of September, but it just got sent home and is still cute.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate!

Rag Quilt

I am still working on Colin's rag quilt, not sure if it will be done by the time he arrives.

Here are all of the squares laid out for Colin's crib sized rag quilt. I had just finished sewing x's on all of the squares--there are three layers to each square.

I had some leftover squares from Colin's quilt, and some from a friend's baby who I made a quilt for, so I had just enough to make a cradle sized quilt. Here are all the squares laid out together.

Next I sewed the squares in strips.

Then sewed the strips together.

Here it is all together with the all the strips sewn together.

Here it is with all of the edges snipped to give it more of a "rag" feel.

The last step is to wash it and dry it--or at least dry it, it gives it the frayed look. The cradle sized quilt is all done. I finished it first since I know he will be using the small one first, and maybe not for very long! We'll see how big he is!

Missing Kitty :-(

Our cat, Fudge, has been missing for over two weeks. Gavin and I made a visit to a local animal shelter and the local SPCA to see if we could find him. Here he is playing with a couple of precocious kittens! No luck in finding him, though. Since we live so close to the channel, I think there's probably no hope of him coming back now.

@ the Park

Gavin and I made a trip to the park that I love that is fashioned after Paul Revere's Midnight ride.

He's a big climbing boy now!

Love that water!

The large ducklings were so cute!

Out with Friends

We met a friend of ours and her three sons at the park and then went out for dinner @ Olive Garden.

They little boys loved to hang out!

The little boys wanted to follow the big boys out of the small part of the park--they had just hopped the fence!

37 weeks

I'm now just over 37 weeks and having doctor's appointments every week. There were pretty much no changes this week with my body (except for gaining a bunch of weight, oops), although she didn't do a pelvic exam to know for sure. She gave me the option of doing one next week. What I didn't mention to her was that pretty much until the day I delivered Gavin I didn't have any major changes that I remember. I don't remember losing my mucus plug or spotting or anything...and I delivered him within about 12 1/2 hours of starting labor. Labor started on its own and my water broke on its own while I was having the epidural. I pushed for only about 25 minutes as well. I hope that things go as smoothly this time. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :-D My next appointment is in a little over a week, since I am scheduling only the week before it's hard to find an appointment day/time that is good since Gavin is in preschool and doing the class at the Nature Center. Philip is hoping for a Halloween baby. Please just don't come late little guy!

Trip to the Temple

This morning with the kids from church we made our way to one of the local temples so that the kids could see it and get excited about it.

Gavin was most interested in the fountains there.

Afternoon in the park

I love that we live so close to nature, yet we are still in the city. I decided to try to take a walk in one of the local parks where Gavin would probably love the animals and stuff.

Gavin went right through all the ducks and various fowl the first chance he got.

See how many he scared away? That crane(?) however, didn't seem scared at all and let us come within a few feet of it.

We wound up taking our walk around a small pond with a paved path. We saw people fishing and I used the various groups of rocks as incentive to keep him going, but of course he had to stop at each group to climb.

Another bird of some sort that I thought looked different and interesting.

When there was no group of rocks to catch his attention, I tried using the couple of bridges there were to keep him moving.

Class this week @ the Nature Center

This the focus of the class was on ants. The teacher told about ants using a book with pictures and then gave each child an inexpensive magnifying glass to look at some fire ants she had in a container. Then we hit the trails to look for ants and they also got to use shovels to dig for them as well. We ended, as always with the bubbles and parachutes. Kids love the routine. We also start each class singing the same songs.

Blogger thinks it's smarter than me. Tried rotating back in Picasa and it didn't work.

There was a turtle here by the bridge and one trying to get on.

Gavin and a couple of the other kids digging.

This is the teacher with the kids.

Gavin loved looking at the ants.

Sleep Good...

Philip thought that the head under the blanket in his bed was so cute.

Sewing

I have been sewing Colin's rag quilt and Gavin feels the need to try to "help" me. I have been sewing three layers together with x's across the middle and here his is trying to do the same. He's trying to put the fabric in like he sees me do.

In this one he is pulling down on the reverse lever like he sees me do to make a knot in the sewing. He hasn't figured out yet that I use a foot pedal to make it go. That's a good thing.

Preschool Projects

It's been fun seeing what kind of seasonal projects Gavin has been bringing home from preschool. There is a dual purpose on taking pictures: I can share his projects with you and I don't have to keep them all to remember them!!!

The white paper says that Gavin used the glue stick all by himself! He's learning so much these days!

A toilet paper ghost is so fun!

Reading with Daddy

I just thought that this was so adorable. Philip was reading his book and Gavin went and got one as well. I find it funny he sat himself down on a pillow to do it, too.

36 weeks and counting

I am actually going to be 37 weeks tomorrow, but I have been so slow in doing entries this past week, sorry. This picture was from last Saturday, at the end of a LONG day. I had such a busy weekend with my friend in town, the reunion, and the bridal shower. It's all good, though, I'd rather be busy than have time dragging on at this point in pregnancy.

This is my last previa update before delivery, I have been given the green light for a regular delivery! So now I get to play the waiting/guessing game that most parents to be get to play at the end of every pregnancy. I had sort of been looking forward to having it scheduled (and not to mention no labor), but it's a trade off because the recovery is supposed to be quicker with a regular birth. My doctor also wants me to walk more or do squats because it will help push the head down and insure that the placenta doesn't tear. The baby is currently almost six pounds. As of last week he was between 5lb 12oz or 5lb 14oz.

Here I am at about 36 weeks now on the left and about 35 on the right with Gavin. I think it's pretty darn even belly-wise. I'm going to try to take a picture a week until the end because since Gavin was a little bit before his due date, I didn't get a picture at my biggest with Gavin.

Bridal Shower!

I am the matron of honor for my friend, Sarah's wedding, so I helped to plan her bridal shower. She was in town for our HS reunion, so it was a perfect time to have the shower since the next time she will be in town our friend's son is being baptized and hopefully I will have a newborn to take care of. (She'll be in town the first full weekend in November and the baby is due Nov. 4).

Here is Malia, the maid of honor who was so gracious to offer up her house for the occasion; Malia's sister, Heather; and Sarah.

Sarah's mom, aunt, and sister.

Sarah and a cousin of hers.

The food table.

Thought this decoration was so cute! Sarah's favorite princess is Cinderella.

Woo hoo! Sexy!

Gotta love the games, hopefully they will make for some fun times!

Sarah and her ribbon bouquet to use at her rehearsal.

Thanks for everyone who came and made the shower a success! She got a lot of good stuff including what was pictured, a set of Henckels knives (that I am so jealous of), canisters, china, silverware, and more! I hope it all helps them get off to a get start in married life!
