The last of Colin's PT

When Colin turned three at the end of October (yes, that is how far behind I am) he aged out of qualifying for early intervention at the regional center for physical therapy.  He had his last session on his third birthday.  When he was evaluated by the school district (which takes over at age 3) they saw him they looked at me as if to say, "Why are you here?"  He put on a stellar performance of running around and telling the name of the street we live on (which I didn't even know he knew before that, thanks preschool!).  At the school district they are looking for things that would prevent him from getting his education and being able to function at school.  They did admit his core is a bit weak and he may have a some slight difficulties in gross motor, but he would still be able to get an appropriate education.  So needless to say, he did NOT qualify for services, which is a good thing.

Practicing the trampoline, trying to jump on one leg as well!

Practicing kneeling and standing on a squishier surface.

Practicing balance and working those core muscles!

Reach!

His last day of PT on his third birthday.  They said he could wear his costume, so Tigger it is!

Physical therapy helped Colin a lot.  He took his first steps at 20 months while doing PT and was a full time walker at two years.  I don't know when he would have hit those milestones without it, probably at least several months later.  The therapists he worked with knew how to motivate him to work like I couldn't at home.  Thanks to all who helped him get to this point!

Physical Therapy Update

Colin has been having fun and working hard at PT!

Wee!

He's got to get back up!

It was time for Colin to get new orthotics and his physical therapist thought that maybe custom would be the best way to go this time, so they made castes of his feet.

He cut right down the yellow thing to take them off.

They look like socks!

We had to wait two or three weeks to get the orthotics back.

Obstacle course!

Tricycle time, although he calls it "bicycle."

Gavin and Colin playing together in the stretchy material!

Colin got his custom orthotics.  The sides are lower on these, but will still put his foot in the position it needs to be in; he won't put so much pressure on his arch.

Colin!

Colin RAN home from picking up Gavin, it was just under half a mile.  Look at his RED cheeks!

We went to a friend's birthday party, here is pirate Colin!

Super hero Colin has made his appearance!

His first pinata!

Getting himself dressed...

Oooh, a carrot from our garden in Jessica's backyard.

Colin helping us move!  I only had my camera phone, look at him streak by, literally!

Playing at a friend's house.

Checking out the carrot...

He tried it!!!

Love the messy blue face!  His cheeks look enormous here!

Sometimes I let Colin "help" me in hang man-- this time he happened to spell out a real word!!!!

We were in Lowe's and I heard Colin say, "O, P, I."  I looked around and there was this sign.  He got the first letters right.

I am sure his physical therapists wouldn't approve, but Colin likes to slide down the stairs on his behind!

Changed his diaper on the grass at the park and he did this on his own!

Nap time.

Piano time!  Singing and playing at the same time!

Gavin didn't want all of his ice cream, so he gave it to Colin, this boy was in HEAVEN!

Showing me Gavin's jewel, looking so cool in daddy's glasses.

Buried in sand!

Love the messy face!
