Ouchies!

I dropped a travel Light Bright on my foot and bruised it.  It hurt a lot! If you don't want to see my foot, don't look at the pics...

Vacation Day 1: Vegas, Baby!

We left at ten something in the morning to begin our trip to Utah.  We had reservations in Las Vegas at Circus Circus for the night.  We wanted the kids to see a little bit of Las Vegas.  We caravaned with Natalie and Richard and their kids/nephews.  After we got there we decided to go to a Japanese restaurant 1.3 miles away.  Someone thought it would be fine to walk, but in 100 degree weather, it was torture.  Once we thought we could go no more we found a Thai Restaurant 1.7 miles away.

After LOTS of ICE water we ate a delicious dinner!  When we left the restaurant we looked kitty corner across the parking lot and there was the restaurant we were looking for! The irony of it all!

By the time we got back to the hotel it was almost dark so we put the kids straight to bed.

Right before we left our place in the morning Philip was getting ice from Jessica's freezer and Gavin gave himself a good burn on the back of his leg from the exercise equipment in her living room.  Ouch!

On the way to Vegas Gavin started talking about "rainbow," and were thinking, what?  Then I turned around and looked at Gavin and he HAD MADE A RAINBOW on the RENTAL CAR!!!!! ARGH!!!!

Gavin got his own queen sized bed!

Colin slept in the pack and play.  He takes his nap in it whenever Gavin is home during nap time, so it wasn't a big deal for him.  I took two pictures because I didn't think the first one was centered the way I liked.  If you look closely it looks like he is almost awake and smiling in the second one.  I wonder... I know though that I sleep with my eyes open, so he very well could be asleep!

Ouch!

As I wrote before, the kids had the entire week of Thanksgiving off from school. On Wednesday, I took Gavin to the park and we met Aunt Staci along with Uncle Richard and Aunt Natalie (as well as the kids that come with the parents) to play tennis. We were in the last set and I was going to be leaving to eat a late lunch and put the kids to bed when I went for a shot, leaving the ground and then landed on the side of my foot, twisting my ankle. We heard a pop... Richard had an emergency ice pack in his car, so I used it. If you don't want to see my feet, don't look! ;-)

These first pictures were from Thanksgiving evening. I hobbled around that whole day. Philip told me I should stay off my feet. Yeah, right! When I don't have kids to chase and take care of, maybe...

For comparison, this is my uninjured ankle.

Six days after my injury, I could walk fine, so I decided to go for a run. SUCH A BAD MOVE! My ankle started hurting again, and a bruise appeared...

I am planning not to run again until January; if it's still hurting then, I guess I will have to suck it up and go to the doctor... :-(

Broken tooth, oh my!

The best I can figure is that when I was nine and broke my front tooth on the corner of the counter top, it weakened the one below it on the bottom. Then when I was running one Saturday I fell (and did a somersault of sorts to land on my back) I slammed my teeth together just right... by Monday I noticed what felt like a hair around my tooth. I looked in the mirror and my bottom tooth had cracked! I made an appointment right away for the dentist and was seen the next day on Tuesday. They took an x-ray and were amazed it was still attached since the crack went all the way around my tooth. They told me to just wait and see what happened. Two days later, on Thursday, I was brushing my teeth and the broken part of my tooth fell off! (I was so relieved that the crack didn't go across the root!) I called the dentist right away, but they are closed on Fridays, so I had to wait until the following Monday to get it fixed. These pictures are both self portraits. I went all weekend with my tooth like this:

Here I am today:

Not bad, eh? The dentist used bonding material to build it back up. He said it turned out looking better than he thought it would. I guess that's good? Anyway. Glad to have gotten it fixed!

Our Trip to Sacramento

I know that a couple of my faithful readers have already seen these pictures, or were there, so I'll make this the abbreviated version...I took over 130 pictures on our trip, I think it was.

We went to Fairytale Town with a bunch of the cousins while visiting grandma and grandpa in the Sacramento area:

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe...

All of the kids with Uncle Lee...oops, too busy taking the picture and forgot to park Gavin in it in his stroller.

And the cheese stood alone. Notice the sandals on Uncle Lee's hat.

Going where no child was supposed to go!

Down the rabbit's hole!

The next day we went to the zoo:

All of the kids who went to the zoo. I even managed to park Gavin in the picture.

Then after that we did slip and slide in the backyard (I have some individual action shots of the kids, if you're interested, but for brevity's sake, I'm not posting them):

The next day was mellow for Gavin and me. We stayed home with grandpa:

Gavin had been "helping" grandpa eat cantaloupe.

Happy eleventh birthday, Perry!

Our last day there Gavin bumped his head and got a nice goose egg in the middle of his forehead:

Then we went to the local Nature Center to view what they had there and take a short walk:

One of our nephews borrowed the camera and was so proud of himself for getting an up close shot of the wild turkey...
