Previa/Baby Update

This morning I had my 34 week ultrasound. The tech told me from the ultrasound on the outside that the placenta was 2.5 cm away from the cervix, but when she did an internal, she said that it was showing that it is 4 cm away from the cervix. Not sure what the results mean yet for delivery, my doctor will tell me at my appointment this Monday. The tech also confirmed that the baby is a boy, and head down already. His estimated weight is 4 lbs, 11 oz. I'm not sure what the norm is for a baby at this stage in pregnancy, but it is good to know that he is getting pretty big (as big as some babies are when they come out, although I am sure that he will probably be at least seven pounds by delivery, if not more.) The tech also give us a couple of sonograms of his face, but he didn't want to take his hands down from his face and he looks kind of freaky...

Pumpkin Update

What a difference three weeks makes in the lives of pumpkins! Check out what they looked like just three weeks ago...They have pretty much filled the entire space; I have thought about taking the chicken wire down, but I don't think I want the chickens getting in... I am hoping to get lots of pumpkins to make pies with and give away to friends and family.





My strawberry plants are in the front of this picture. They have given up on life. I think I am going to plant some sugar snap peas when the weather starts to cool down. Gavin and I loved to snack on them last spring!

Where did my baby go?

Gavin spent his first night in his big boy bed after napping an entire week there! Now I am getting the crib ready for the baby; I will also get the bassinet and cradle ready as well to go (one will probably go in the room, the other the living room.) Only about six weeks or so left... in some ways it's flown by, others it has dragged. It certainly didn't drag like when I was pregnant with Gavin, though, because now I am busy chasing after Gavin and don't have as much time to think about the new baby.

Train @ the Park

Today we went to the playground that has a train in it. Gavin saw the train and went running for it!



Holding up his hands telling me that they were dirty and wanting to be clean. I finally showed him how to wipe them on his pants so he would stop bothering me to clean them after touching the dirt or sand.



Gavin had pointed to this teeter toter saying, "Up and down. Up and down." So I helped him make it go up and down, then tried to put him on it, but he was having none of it!

"Hello train!"





We had a snack of granola bars while we were there. Notice the wrapper in one hand and trying to feed the train a handful in the other. I guess it doesn't matter to him that this train doesn't have a face! I'm so glad to see him "sharing" even if it is with inanimate objects! He usually is pretty good with sharing with others, except for his Thomas.

Hospital Tour

Last night Philip and I took the OB hospital tour at the hospital where I will deliver, since it is a different one than where I delivered Gavin. The rooms are VERY similar to those where I delivered at the last hospital (except there is a recliner in each labor/delivery/recovery room for dad to sit/sleep in), and almost all of the rules are the same except dad can stay overnight if you aren't sharing a postpartum room. It would have been convenient last time since we had no other kids at home, but I doubt we'll be doing it this time since Gavin is at home and we are going to probably have to switch off babysitters during the daytime so that Philip can be with me and the baby at least some of the day.

When we came home from the tour, this is how I found Gavin:



I thought that it was hilarious! I don't know if it was intentional or not, but he did have his nose peeking out!

Preschool Update

At Gavin's preschool they sent home a "family square" for each of the kids to make at home with their parents. We were supposed to put however many family pictures we wanted and then decorate however the child wanted to do. I had previously bought some pom poms and googly eyes, but I also got some sequins to add to my craft collection and use for this project.

Putting on some sequins. Oh, and let's not forget that he calls stars "twinkles" most of the time (although he can tell me it is a star when I ask as well). He also tries to sing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Rock-a-Bye Baby with me and or Philip when we see it in one of his books. I think it's so cute and we'll have to get a video of it one of these days.



The orientation, (once again) is off on this picture, but you get the idea. I added a picture of Gavin by himself in the upper left hand corner that I will replace with a new family picture after Colin comes to join our family. The majority of the school year, after all, Gavin will have a little brother. (Notice a few of the pom poms have googly eyes, he was copying what I had used for a prop during a sharing time at church I taught.)



Gavin also brought home another art project today. They have been learning about and tasting apples this month. I asked Gavin what it was and he said, "apples." Then he added, "cute."

Big Boy Bed Update!

After trying unsuccessfully on Saturday with Philip home to get Gavin to sleep in his big boy bed, I finally got him to sleep in it yesterday! He slept well, too, about 2 hours! He is now in his big boy bed again for nap right now, it's quiet, so I will take that as a good sign!

32 weeks and counting!

When Philip was taking pictures of me, Gavin wanted to get in on it. He was showing off Thomas.



Here I am at 32 weeks on the left now, and 31 weeks with Gavin. Looks pretty darn close to the same size to me! So glad that my belly evened out with last time. I have my 34 week ultrasound to check on my previa in a week and a half. Will update then! It's kind of fun that I get so many ultrasounds, I get to see the baby more and the insurance pays everything but a $15 copay.

It's so funny, he decided he wanted to "sleep" in our bed; he even crawled under the covers!

Gavin's 1st Day of Preschool

Gavin went with Aunt Staci and his cousin, Josh, to his first day of Preschool!

He ventured away from the trains one more time, to play at the table with the rice. He probably liked it because it's kind of like clean sand (and he usually loves the sand!).

Happy 93rd Birthday, Great Grandpa!

My Dad called me up last week and asked if I could come with him to go see my grandpa for his birthday. I got together a digital scrapbook page that I printed for him and framed. I went with my Dad this morning while Gavin was at his first day of preschool!

Big Boy Bed and Trains

We finally have Gavin's big boy bed together along with his bedrail and new Thomas sheets he picked out. Along with that, Uncle Jon and Philip got a piece of plywood ready for Gavin's trains to live on until Colin is ready to use the trundle bed. (Hopefully there won't be a big stink when Colin makes the transition...) Gavin was excited about it all.

We bought him a new pillow and let him have it with his new Thomas pillowcase before his big boy bed was ready.



His bed finally came together yesterday morning before the pool party at our house.

He was exploring the bed and wriggling all around. My plan is to let him get used to it for a few days and then we will try him on it for nap time for a few days. That's how I transitioned him from the cradle to the crib.

The Children's Museum

Aunt Staci told us that one of the local children's museums (like 30 minutes away) is free on the first Saturday of the month, thanks to Target, so we thought that we would venture that way and check it out.

He got his turn to drive. He loved it, of course!



Best of all, of course, he loved the trains around the museum! This is the first set of tracks he found, but there weren't any trains...



...but of course, if anyone could find one, leave it to the train lover. He found one in the room (this was in the kids' room for five an under and things get moved) and brought it straight to the tracks. He knew exactly what it was.



We also watched a bit of the marionette show. I personally thought that pretty much all of them were a bit freaky looking...



He seemed to enjoy it perched on Philip's shoulders, though, he also liked to play with Daddy's ears.

They all had fun shopping in the mini supermarket where there was plastic and wooden food, a scale, cash registers, and of course one of Gavin's favorite things: miniature shopping carts.

Gavin, of course, found the other train set. This is a Thomas set they had near a large model train. He only had eyes for the one he could play with, though.



He also LOVED the model trains that moved on the tracks behind the glass. There were also real trains outside, which Gavin liked as well, but they didn't have an engine and we didn't stay late enough to tour the caboose.
