Colin's Race with Grandpa

Over the July 4th weekend Grandma and Grandpa were in town for our nephew's baptism.  Colin happened to have borrowed a walker from his physical therapist so we thought it would be fun to have a "race" with grandpa--although Colin didn't really get it.

In the Garden

I planted pumpkins in my garden after the snap peas were done.

Riding the trains to Olvera Street

We went with my dad on an adventure riding the local train system to Olvera Street downtown LA.  Gavin loved the trains, of course!  Took us probably an hour or more each way by train, but Gavin didn't mind a bit.

Grandpa rides the trains to Olvera Street about once a year and always eats at Cielito Lindo for their taquitos with green sauce (he said his uncle introduced him to them years ago), so we thought we would uphold the tradition.  They were yummy, but we got the kids a bean and cheese burrito for ease of eating and because we knew that was something they would eat.

The train station we arrived at in LA was the famous Union Station.  It's right by Olvera Street and I thought I would take pictures of it.  

Grandpa was kind enough to take a few family pictures of us at Union Station before we returned home.

Anpanman

Colin LOVES Anpanman.  In the link on this page he is in the picture twice on the top left as a baby and top middle in the red outfit.  I think I have mentioned him in earlier posts, but it is has been a while.  He is a very popular character for children in Japanese animation.  He has a bread head with bean filling inside.  He goes and rescues people and sometimes even gives part of his head for people to eat if they need it.  It may sound creepy, but it's really not.  I have been having Gavin and Colin watch the two DVD's we have that teach the hiragana (the Japanese syllabary--somewhat equivalent to our alphabet) to the boys and Colin absolutely loves it--I think because it has quite a bit of music/singing in it and he sometimes sings one of the songs from it.

Eating, Colin Style

Argh! Colin refuses to eat pretty much any vegetables.  I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen him eat one or so pieces of veggies at a time since he's doing table food now.  So I decided to try hiding veggies in his food...I pureed carrots and hid it in a couple of things.

In addition to adding purees, I feed him whole milk yogurt that also has vegetables in it.

Here he's eating curry that has carrot puree on top on the carrot pieces that he wouldn't eat.

I also tried it in egg salad and it worked, he didn't seem to notice it was a different color than the rest of ours...

Get those socks!

For some reason they got into their heads that they wanted to pull off Philip's socks.  Thought it was cute!
