Eating this Week

I'm on a mission to get Gavin to eat different foods with his fingers. Right now he'll only eat dry cereal, crackers, cookies, and bread with his fingers. I think he doesn't like being messy.

Since Gavin is over a year old now, I thought we'd try out peanut butter and jelly. He ate one small piece, (which I was really surprised to see), but then didn't eat anymore of it.

I have also been trying to get him to eat chunkier foods (as opposed to grinding them, which is what I have been doing). One day he at a whole chunky meal of pasta, chicken, and peas, but has refused to do it since then. I was trying to get him to eat butternut squash soup with alphabet pasta in it, but it pretty much just made it to the face, but not down the throat.

So, the next day I tried to give it to him in a bowl with a spoon but, of course, he doesn't know how to use a spoon, but he still wouldn't even try to put the pasta to his mouth with his hands. He has seven teeth now, but wants everything ground up if it's not bread or crackers! Ah!

Our Little Reader

Lately Gavin has really been enjoying reading books. He especially likes the different sized pages in The Very Hungry Caterpillar and books with flaps. He does really well with turning the pages now, he can even turn them pretty well in magazines.

Philip has been reading to Gavin in Japanese, but lately he has been reading books that are written in English and just telling him about them in Japanese, so they read from left to right. The day after this picture was taken Philip was reading him a book in Japanese that is read from right to left, but Gavin wasn't having any of that. He kept turning the pages from left to right on his Daddy! He has learned it one way and he wants to keep it that way. We looked again at our collection of Japanese books and most of them are written the western way (probably because some of them are translated from English, others who knows why), so we need to get him some more that are the eastern way to teach him that they can be read both ways.

Let's Play Fetch

This shows another similarity between dogs and babies, only he throws the ball for himself. We'll have to get him a dog sometime, hopefully we'll buy a house one of these days and so we wouldn't have to worry about the dog messing up other people's things in the yard or house.

All Tangled Up

Gavin (and the cat and our niece) have been playing with the yarn lately.

Puppy Dog

I think that this is hilarious. A friend of mine thinks that I should send it to America's Funniest Home Videos.

More Fun Times

Dog Toys

Gavin should have a t-shirt that says, "I heart dog toys." My parents' dog, Molly, seems worried a lot of times because he loves to play with her toys and she's not used to sharing, hehehehe.

Party Animal!

We had another, smaller party with Mom's side of the family. It turned out to be way smaller than we thought it'd be, but oh well.

Happy First Birthday, Gavin!

There are SO many pictures I could put on here, but I'll try to narrow it down. We had a party with mostly family in the backyard with hot dogs, pool, cake, and presents.

Don't ask me what's up with the sideways picture. It has the right orientation on our computer, but for some reason uploaded this way...

Look at the sun blocked hair, since he refuses to wear the hat I bought for him that matches his swim trunks.

In the pool with Daddy, Grandpa, and some other friends.

Happy Birthday to you...

Poke!

What is this stuff on my hands? I don't like it! Get it off!

He HATED his cake. Refused to eat any of it and wanted the frosting off as soon as it got on his hands. He wouldn't even let Daddy put frosting on his lips so that he could taste it.

Max the Cat

My friend that I go walking with four or five times a week has a really friendly cat...

Wanna ride on the handle bars, Max? We're going for a jog!

I think I'd like to trade in my cat for a model like Max, especially after he JUST BARELY missed scratching Gavin in the eye yesterday!

Look, there's Mom in the mirror, taking a picture...

Another Funny Noise!

Gavin was doing this while he wasn't happy in his high chair, but it's still funny, I think.

Look what I can do!

Gavin has been clicking his tongue for a while, but I finally caught it on video.

Chase Me!

Gavin has learned to play chase, at least to be chase and he loves it! I chase him, Daddy chases him, one of his cousins has chased him, he even wants to be chased by animals, apparently! This video was taken at Grandma's house, where Gavin was trying to get Molly to chase him, but she wasn't getting it, of course. We thought it was cute, though. This video doesn't show it really well, but you get the idea.

Happy Birthday to Daddy!

Daddy's birthday was last Saturday, May 3. On Saturday we went to Mexican food for dinner and then Daddy and a friend went to see Iron Man. On Sunday, we had dinner and birthday cake at Grandma's house. Grandma gave Daddy a book on samurai.

Gavin says, "What's going on?"

Gavin's Fan Mail

Here is an entry I have been meaning to do for a while. Gavin is loved by all of his cousins, which I am so glad about! Here are a couple of "fan mail" letters I have received about him and to him from two of Gavin's cousins. So cute! If you click on them it will make them larger so that you can read them!

Hello Animals!

We took a trip to the zoo today in the afternoon. It was a quick trip at a small zoo, but it was good.

Cousin, Brooke, and another friend looking at the monkeys, the swans, and another swimming bird.

Here is the other bird. It was a something or other screecher.

The parrots digging for who knows what. It looked like they were eating something.

It's hard to see, but there is a baby monkey on the mama's back.

Gavin's favorite part was the dirt!

Brooke and another friend in a tunnel at the zoo.

Making dirt angels with his hands.
