Japanese School New Years Potluck

Every January the Japanese School does a potluck to celebrate the new year.

I thought this onigiri (rice ball) was too cute, I love ladybugs!

They were doing a traditional dance.

Gavin did a dance with some of the other kids.

Pioneer Day Picnic and Japanese Festival

We had a fun afternoon!  We went to the pioneer day picnic with family, then off to a Japanese festival for dessert!

Here is Colin getting a ride from Grandpa at the Pioneer Day picnic!

Eating dango! It is a Japanese doughnut.

Onigiri!

I made some more cute onigiri for Gavin's lunch.

This time I made Colin the same onigiri as well as a large triangular one for me.  I think I should probably make onigiri more often; my boys love it!  And if I were really on the ball I could make them for Philip's lunch as well!

Vacation Day 5: On our way home--Vegas Baby!

We ate in the Japanese restaurant we had intended to walk to when we were in Las Vegas on our way to Utah.  We thought it was just as well that we ate at the Thai restaurant instead.

After we ate we used our free tickets that we had for rides and the midway just for staying at Circus Circus.  We had the tickets from the way there that were ours, plus Natalie and Richard gave us theirs (Thanks so much!), and then the tickets from that stay!  So the kids got some free fun! Here is Colin holding one of the prizes.  Gavin and Colin both played a fishing for rubber ducky game, Philip helped Gavin do a hit the anvil and try to get the rubber chicken in a cup game,  Philip and I both tried throwing ping pong balls in the moving cup game (because the prize looked really cool, but it was really hard!), and Gavin tried darts and got a prize even though he didn't hit anything.

Gavin and Philip rode the balloon ferris wheel!

Gavin and Colin both rode the carousel.

Thought the blurred effect on the next two pictures was kind of cool!

Colin is clapping for the roller coaster train ride!

Here is the video of him clapping.  You can see the train go by in the shadows as he claps.

Gavin had been asking to ride a roller coaster ever since we passed through Vegas on our way to Utah.  He got his wish here!  A train roller coaster, how perfect for him!

The last ride Gavin did was a helicopter!

I thought it would be fun to drive down the strip with the kids to look at the lights.  It was SO crowded! It was already past the kids' bed time when we left, but I think they finally got down at something outrageous (for them) like 10:30 or so if I am remembering correctly.
