On Tuesday, I went to the dentist for my semiannual cleaning and check up. Gavin laid on my lap for the whole appointment. He even flipped onto his tummy while the hygienist was polishing my teeth, that was funny. The dentist said he was such a good boy that he would give him a nickel for the machine to get a toy. (This is the same dentist I went to as a child; the price of toys hasn't gone up in his office...it's the reward for all the kids, I loved getting the bouncy balls from the machine.) Gavin received a bouncy ball as well. He thought it bouncing was really funny, so I tried to catch his giggles on video. I love hearing him laugh. As you can imagine, I'm not quite sure where the ball is now...

Kisses!
On Tuesday, when I got Gavin up from his afternoon nap, he put his open mouth on my face. I was thinking, what in the world is he doing? Trying to eat me? Then I kissed him on the cheek. He put his open mouth on my face again two or three more times. I'm pretty sure he was trying to kiss me!
Then, later that evening, I was laying on the floor on my back and my tummy was showing a bit. Gavin came up to me and pulled my shirt up and put his open mouth on my belly! Sometimes I kiss his belly and make him laugh or blow raspberries. I think he was trying to do that to me! So cute!

At the beach with Daddy!
Today our whole little family went to the beach where there are actually waves with Uncle Lee, Aunt Staci, Perry, and Libby. Gavin LOVED it! But, towards the end of the time that we were there, he cried while Daddy was out playing in the water. When he finally came back, he was fine, but it was time to go home. We think he may have had sand in his eyes, his face was coated with it. Either that, or he just wanted to be with Daddy.
For once I am actually in some of the pictures as well. Thanks, Aunt Staci, for taking the pictures!

Mama's New Car
I mentioned in an earlier post that Philip and I went car shopping. Well, we bought a car today! We got a 2009 Nissa Versa SL in silver! So far we are really happy with it.
We did a cargo test before we bought it, we were able to get my jogging stroller, our large suitcase, and another stroller (in place of the pack 'n' play that was being used by Gavin while he was being watched at Aunt Staci's house).
We also put Gavin's car seat along with his cousin Josh's seat that we borrowed from Aunt Jessica to see how it will fit when we have a second child (not making any announcements!). The car salesman even squeezed in between the car seats! (As Aunt Jessica said, he knew he was close to making a sale!)
If anyone in our area wants to buy a Nissan, we'd recommend going to the dealership where we bought and using the salesman we had, let us know if you're interested, we can give you his card.

Mr. Hat Man
Gavin put on Daddy's big hat this morning, of course he took it off before we could get a picture, but then we managed to get him to let us put it on for a quick one right afterward.
Fountain Play
Outside the library where we went yesterday, there is a really nice fountain where a lot of kids play during the hot summer. All of the kids had a great time!
Library Time!
Yesterday we went to the library with Aunt Staci, Sage, Libby, and Brooke. It is the coolest library ever, it has a giant fish tank, a tyrannosaurus rex, computers for the kids, and of course lots of books!

Counting Blocks
We bought Gavin a block counting toy. It didn't take long for him to catch on how to put them on the wooden posts, he loves it!

Guess what?!
...Gavin took his first steps yesterday afternoon!!!!
On Tuesday evening we finally got Gavin to walk with Philip only holding one of his hands for Aunt Jessica, and we were excited about that.
But, Philip and I went car shopping yesterday morning/afternoon and Aunt Staci watched him. Wouldn't you know it, he took his first steps at her house when we were gone! Darn it, I spent practically 24/7 with the kid and he goes and does something that big when I'm not around. Oh well, I'm not really upset, it's just the irony of it all! Apparently there was a ladybug toy on the couch and he really wanted it so he took two steps towards it. We were able to get him to take a few more steps at home after we got home, so it's all good. We have yet to be able to catch it on video, though, so we'll try to catch it as soon as we can!

Gavin's Protest
I have been thinking about weaning Gavin from his nursing at this nap times, but hadn't tried it at all yet. Today I finally decided to do it. So instead of nursing him before his first nap, I gave him some yogurt and then put him down. He seemed fine at that nap. At Gavin's second nap, however, he was crying for probably half an hour and I went into nurse him, figuring maybe I should only wean him from one nap at a time. He had made this neat (for a one year old) pile of just about everything in his crib. We think he was saying, "Give me the milk lady, or I will not go to sleep!"
Doesn't he look so satisfied with himself?
I nursed him, but he's still awake now and it's been over an hour since I first put him down. So, maybe the nursing wasn't the problem after all. I'm not sure what's going on with him. He seems to be changing his schedule; for the past two days he hasn't woken up for his morning nursing until about 6:00 (which has been oh so nice, I'm not complaining), then he has slept until about 8:30 am (yay!), whereas he is usually awake and ready to get out of the crib by 7:30, sometimes even 7:00. Who knows why kids do anything.

Fruit Flick Video
Check out the entry entitled, "Fruit Flick" from June 11. I finally got the video uploaded. It's kind of long, but cute, I think. (If you get bored you can always close it, I won't be offended... in fact, I won't even know, hehehehe.)

Why don't we say, "Happy Independence Day!"? Is that too stuffy of a phrase?
We played some more with the blocks this morning. Gavin immediately got into the block box this time and picked up the lid. We think he wanted to shut himself in the box! Kids are so funny. It can't be comfy sitting on wooden blocks, can it? Or does the diaper offer padding that's really that good?
We went to a friend's house for a BBQ this afternoon. Gavin played "with" their two kids.
Trying to sit on the car. He loved to do that and honk the horn.

Sliding Cat
The cat has been spending more time outside ever since we realized that he was just hanging out in our yard. He likes to view his kingdom (All cats are royalty, right? At least they think so.) from the highest peak available, and this is a pretty good one. He no longer has roof access (thank goodness) since Jessica and Jon took out the apricot tree outside Gavin's window.
The Museum of Natural History
One of my friends informed us that our county Museum of Natural History is free on the first Tuesday of the month, so another friend and I gave it a go.

Mama's Morning Off
Philip kept asking what I wanted for my birthday, so I told him that I wanted to be able to sleep in one morning. Daddy went to make himself breakfast and here is what he found when he came back, an empty tissue box. It was nice being able to stay in bed late(r)...I got to stay in bed about an hour later, and even then I got up of my own free will because some of my girlfriends took me out to breakfast! (Fun times! Should have taken a picture!)

Little Mozart
He has discovered that he can make music on the piano.
I think he's actually doing a pretty good job, he's not pounding away or making a racket. But, maybe it's because he can't really reach that well! Ha!

Beach Fun
We went to the beach for the first time this summer.
Gavin LOVED it! He went straight for the water, even before I had him ready to get in. Then he wanted to SWIM in it like we do in the pool. He is going to be my little fish.
Please excuse my camera strap, again. It's been misbehaving this week. Maybe I'll have to beat it into submission, hahahaha.
